Find the tempo of any song or YouTube video - instant, private, in your browser
Drop in any audio file and the tool measures its tempo in beats per minute (BPM) within seconds. Under the hood it builds an onset curve across 40 logarithmic frequency bands, then scores every candidate tempo on the combined strength of its first four harmonics - which is what separates a 170 BPM track from its half-tempo twin at 85, since the two look identical to a detector that reads a single peak.
Measured against 254 finished tracks whose real tempo was read out of the original project files rather than guessed by ear, it returns the exact BPM in 78% of cases and lands within 1 BPM in 88%.
Unlike most online BPM counters, nothing is uploaded: the analysis runs entirely inside your browser using the Web Audio API, so it works even with large uncompressed WAV files and your music stays private.
A 70 BPM hip-hop beat and a 140 BPM trap beat can produce identical pulse patterns, so half/double ambiguity is inherent to all beat detection. That's why the tool shows the top 5 candidates - if the main result feels wrong, the correct tempo is almost always in the list at exactly half or double.
No. The file is decoded and analyzed locally by your browser. It never leaves your device and we store nothing.
Anything your browser can decode: MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A/AAC, AIFF and more.
On 254 finished tracks with the true tempo taken from their project files: exact in 78% of cases, within 1 BPM in 88%. Ambient or rubato material without a steady pulse is genuinely harder - check the candidate list and confidence bars in those cases.
Yes - use the free Key Finder. It detects the key plus the detune offset in cents, which matters for trap and pluggnb beats that are pitched off standard tuning.
