1. What we collect
BeatDL collects minimal data to operate the service:
- Server logs - your IP address, browser User-Agent, and the timestamp of each request are recorded automatically by the web server. These logs are used solely for security and abuse prevention and are retained for no more than 30 days.
- YouTube URLs - the URL you submit is sent to our server to proxy the audio stream from YouTube. We do not store, cache, or log these URLs after the request completes.
We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information.
2. Audio processing
All audio decoding, BPM detection, key detection, and encoding (MP3/WAV) is performed entirely in your browser. No audio data is ever uploaded to our servers. The server acts only as a transparent proxy between YouTube's CDN and your browser - the audio stream passes through RAM only and is never written to disk.
3. Analytics
BeatDL uses Umami, a self-hosted, privacy-focused analytics tool. Umami does not use cookies and does not collect or store any personally identifiable information. It tracks anonymous page views and the following custom events:
- fetch beat - recorded when you press the Go button (no URL or content is included)
- download - recorded when you save a file, including the selected format, detected BPM, and detected key
- analyze local file - recorded when you analyze a file from your device, including detected BPM and key; no file name or content is included
- fetch_completed - recorded when the BPM and key result is shown after a successful fetch
- bpm_finder_analyze - recorded when you analyze a file or a YouTube link on the BPM Finder page, including the detected BPM and whether it came from a file or a link; no file name, link or content is included
- key_finder_analyze - recorded when you analyze a file or a YouTube link on the Key Finder page, including the detected key and whether it came from a file or a link; no file name, link or content is included
- autotune guide - recorded when you open the Auto-Tune settings guide or pick a different plugin in it, including only the plugin selected
- playlist fetch - recorded when a playlist is loaded on the Playlist page, including only the number of tracks it contains; the playlist link itself is not recorded
- playlist download all - recorded when you start a bulk playlist download, including the number of tracks queued and the selected format
- playlist track download - recorded when a single playlist track is saved, including the selected format and, if enabled, the detected BPM and key
- playlist download complete - recorded when a bulk playlist download finishes, including how many tracks succeeded and how many failed
- playlist hint click / playlist redirect - recorded when a playlist link takes you from the home page to the Playlist page; no URL is included
- webview detected - recorded once when the site is opened inside an in-app browser (for example Instagram or TikTok), where downloads do not work; nothing else is included
- feedback - recorded when you send the feedback form, including only whether it was a bug report or a suggestion; the message itself is emailed to us, not tracked
All analytics data is stored on our own server and is never shared with third parties.
4. Cookies & Advertising
BeatDL does not use cookies for analytics. However, BeatDL displays third-party advertisements served by Adsterra. These ad scripts may set cookies or use similar technologies to serve relevant ads. Adsterra's data practices are governed by the Adsterra Privacy Policy. You can opt out of interest-based advertising via aboutads.info.
5. Third-party services
The service relies on YouTube (via yt-dlp) to retrieve audio streams. Your use of YouTube content is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
6. Your rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you (limited to server logs). To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below.
